Hyper-V Server
UPDATED April 2024
When you use DaDesktop (DD) to prepare a machine in Fresh Start, nearly all applications run perfectly. However, a couple of applications can run into trouble because of the cloning process, requiring a few extra steps to get them working properly.
System Details
- Hyper-V Server 2019 and above (other versions will probably show same behaviour)
- Installed using Windows 10 / Win 2019 Server template
Fresh Start Fix Notes

Keep in mind that this is a general guide for correcting the application inside Fresh Start. The steps might vary based on your specific configuration setup.

Here’s the summary of the Fresh Start fix: Hyper-V consistently generates duplicate MAC addresses on the External switch when a system is cloned from a FreshStart machine. The fix is either to select the second pre-configured Intel network connection or remove the external switch from the FreshStart machine before cloning, as I’ll explain in detail below).
Fix process
1. Start by opening Hyper-V Manager. Right-click and select Virtual Switch Manager from the menu.
2. In the Virtual Switch Manager window that appears, choose the 'External' switch, then pick the Intel Pro/1000 network connection. Note: this option is only available on newer Windows 10 templates (v71 and above). Click OK, save the configuration if prompted, and then close Hyper-V Manager.
3. Next, proceed with any remaining FreshStart machine configuration you need. Once that’s done, shut down the machine from inside the VM and wait until it’s completely stopped. Finally, clone the FreshStart machine to both the Trainer and Participant machines as needed.
After this fix, Hyper-V Server should operate correctly on the Trainer and Participant machines. Without it, cloned machines end up with duplicate MAC addresses on the External switch, causing participants to see each other’s machines rather than their own, because cloning the external network card results in duplicate MAC addresses on the External switch when the FreshStart machine is cloned.
